Just drop the phantom if you don't need it. A simple design around THAT 1512, which is a single chip preamp pin compatible with INA217 but apparently a "more modern" part (?).

They sound really good even with powered from the dead simple SMPS modules that JLM sell and recommend - maybe even better with a good linear supply, I have no idea whatsoever.įor cheap but nice Eurorackable pres i've been thinking about these. Soon going to build a dual channel with different transformers & opamps to a slightly bigger hammond box. I did a single channel one on a small Hammond box quite a few years ago and used it a lot. I've built JLM Baby Animal pres - you can choose the case form factor yourself if you don't buy a rack from them (unless you mean the PCB form factor). That being said, a mic pre might be fun in Euro format for goosing up mic levels so you can run them through VCFs and VCAs and such. It seems like a line amplifier might be more what you're looking for to color the signal a little and maybe offer some attenuation or balancing. I'm not sure I follow why you would want to run your synth through a mic preamp since modular levels are already extremely hot and you'd probably want some heavy padding on the input. I think I even got mine as a free sample from TI! It'll cost more to build the power supply and case than to buy the $7 chip. Supposedly some of the Trident consoles and channel strips use the same chip and similar circuitry, but that may be worth a fact-check. They've worked well for me and I also built a pair for my buddy who seems to be enjoying them. I followed it with a simple balanced line driver using an NE5532 to balance the output.
